Week 25 of the Massive Renovation Project

Thinking back to when this all started on the 11th May, with a project that would take 8-12 weeks, it's really quite hard to get my head round that we are now in week 25 with a project that just keeps snowballing but at the same time we are only a month away from the "end date" - finishing line is in sight and I'm clinging to that with dear life!

Its a rollercoaster right now, as a family living with other family whist the project is taking place (still no bathroom) we are all now clambering for our own space, its really hard on the children and my husband plus I'm feeling the pressure from every single side.

The corner of what was our playroom and will now be our new kitchen extension had a dip in the floor, our builder had checked it before we started demolishing the back of the house and had said not to worry about it... turns out it was something to worry about - the whole floor has dry rot and will need replacing - the whole thing can you believe! This is going to add 4 days and several thousands to our already time pressured and expensive project. We've already had the lovely surprises of replace plumbing and electrics  (and the flat roof but that was anticipated) so a 3rd expensive surprise is just a step to much for me at the moment - why can't these surprises be a little bit more affordable, I'm not expecting them to be cheap but surely not everything has to be thousands extra does it?

So here we are .... rotten floor stage complete with a random live plug socket left below the flooring!

This week has also brought along with it the frustration of the carpenters working on a different job rather than finishing off our wardrobes.

Our bed has been delivered in boxes ready to build as soon as the wardrobes are complete, I can't wait to see it as it was an online purchase and its sometimes hard to gage from a photo what it'll actually look and feel like! I'm now trying to decide on a rug, bedding, curtains and radiator valves for this room!

Some more parts of our new kitchen have arrived (in boxes in a storage unit for now!) can't express in words how much I'm looking forward to our kitchen! I've been doing some recipe development ready for my YouTube channel as soon as my recording studio is ready (AKA the kitchen!) look out for my meringue recipe coming soon - they've been such a hit!

I'm currently trying to source and decide on our kitchen worktops, but it seems that what I have in mind doesn't exist for a realistic budget - the cost of plain white solid work surface for an L shape above the cupboards and the island is coming in at £6k - about twice as much as I had expected so back to the drawing board - What are the non laminate options for a solid, functional, plain kitchen surface? suggestions welcome!
